  1. Getting Access
    1. How do I apply for an account?
    2. To apply for an account, simply send an us an email with a brief description of who you are and why you want an account. You will find our contact information in the "Main" section.

    3. Who can apply?
    4. Technically anyone, but a certain knowledge of pharmacy is required to understand the output.

    5. I have a username and a password, what now?
    6. Now you are ready to log onto the system. You can select the "Login" option, or you can select one of the models (BIGNPEM, BIGIT2B,...). You will be redirected to the Login page if you have not logged in.

    7. How do you know that I have logged in?
    8. When you log in we place a cookie in your browser. When you access a page that requires you to log in, it will look for that cookie. The cookie is valid for 12 hours.

    9. I keep getting the Login page?
    10. If you type in a wrong username and password combination, you will be redirected to the Login page. Note that both your username and password are case sensitive.

    11. I keep getting the Welcome page?
    12. If you are already logged in and try to select the Login page, you will be redirected to the Welcome page.

  2. Need Help or Information
    1. What is the best way to contact LAPK?
    2. The best way of reaching one of the LAPK members is by using the email adress given in the "Main" section.

    3. Why do you not answer my emails?
    4. The LAPK web computing resource is provided to you for free. This means that we cannot pay someone to answer your questions (i.e. we have to do it in our spare time). We are seriously trying to answer all questions, but it might take a few days. Please, be patient...

    5. What kind of questions can you answer?
    6. We have the capacity to answer questions about pharmacy, pharamacokinetics, and related numerical models. But as mentioned above, we are a bit busy at times.

  3. LAPK Web Computing
    1. How does this work?
    2. The files you upload are placed in a job directory, and the system is informed of your job. Your job is started when the resources it requires are available. The output from your job will be mailed to you when it is finished.

    3. Give me more details, please?
    4. The computations are performed on a Linux cluster that has been set up in our lab. The machines are a mix of 1 and 2 CPU boxes from Dell. They all have 800MHz Pentium III CPUs, and 256 Mbytes of memory per CPU. The network used is plain 100 Mbit Ethernet. The web server is Apache with a Tomcat servlet engine. To allow for multiple jobs, we use the OpenPBS batch system.

    5. Can I upload more than one job?
    6. Yes, upload as many as you like.

    7. How big can the job be?
    8. This will depend on the load. If "Status" shows that 50 jobs are waiting to be executed, submitting an 18 hour job may be a bit on the wild side.

    9. What is the "Admin" option?
    10. The "Admin" option is for persons granted system privileges only.

    11. What do I do with the ZIP file I got?
    12. The ZIP file (IT2Byourname.zip, NPEMyourname.zip) is a compressed archive containing the files that resulted from your computations. These files must be extracted from the zip file before you can use them. Programs that can be used for extracting the files are WinZip, and PKZIP.

    13. Is it expensive to set up?
    14. There is no standard answer for that question, as there are too many parameters (type of networking, number of PCs, and so on). The good thing is that you may not have to buy any new software except for a decent Fortran compiler.

    15. Can I set up a similar system?
    16. Yes. Please contact us if you are interested in running our software on your own system.

  4. Security Issues
    1. Do you keep my files?
    2. All files are deleted once your job is successfully completed.

    3. Do you give away my email adress?
    4. No, no, and NO! We will never give away any information provided by you unless you tell us to do so.

    5. Who owns the computed results?
    6. You provide the input files, we provide the software. All we request is that you refer to us in your work.

    7. Are you logging my use of the system?
    8. Yes, we are, but only for internal use. We need to see how the system is being used in order to maintain and improve it. Information presented to external sources (usage statistics based on country etc.) will not contain any personal information.
